While Trump Invites Putin To His Board Of Peace, Ukraine Braces For ‘Massive Strike’ From Russia

Emergency services personnel work to extinguish a fire following a Russian attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026. Ukraine is preparing for a “massive strike” from Vladimir Putin in the coming days, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In his daily video online, the Ukrainian president said: “In the coming days we must remain extremely vigilant.“Russia has prepared for a strike – a massive strike – and is waiting for the moment to carry it out.”It comes as Donald Trump just invited Putin to join his US-run Board of Peace, meant to temporarily oversee the running of Gaza as the Israel-Hamas conflict supposedly winds down.Russia is one of 60 countries which has been asked by the US president to join the board – for a signing-up fee of $1 billion – but easily the most controversial because of Putin’s brutal invasion of Ukraine.UK minister Darren Jones even called the invitation “absurd” on Tuesday morning, adding that the idea the Russian autocrat is a man of peace is “for the birds”.Putin currently holds around a fifth of Ukraine’s sovereign land and is refusing to back down from his maximalist goals over the country.Russia has also sustained more than a million casualties since invading Ukraine almost four years ago.Even so, Trump blamed Zelenskyy for the US’s own failure to end the Ukraine war last week, claiming Putin is “ready to make a deal” while Kyiv is “less ready”.The Ukrainian president then hit back on X: “Ukraine has never been and will never be a stumbling block to peace.“When Ukrainians are left without power for 20–30 hours because of Russia, and when Russian strikes are aimed at breaking our energy system and our people, it is Russia that must be put under pressure.”Zelenskyy already declared a state of emergency in Ukraine’s energy sector last week following an intense bombardment from Russian forces. The Ukrainian president said Russia’s attack could end up targeting the facilities which prop up Ukraine’s nuclear power stations.According to Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, Moscow aims to completely disconnect Ukrainians from heat and power amid plummeting temperatures. The Ukrainian government has already imposed controlled blackouts across the country to ensure the grid remains balanced.Related…Volodymyr Zelenskyy Hits Back At Trump’s Claim He Is Blocking Ukraine Peace DealUK Debunks ‘False Rhetoric’ At Heart Of Putin’s Ukraine InvasionTrump Hints At Real Reason US Agreed To Security Guarantees For Ukraine HuffPost UK – Athena2 – All Entries (Public) Read More
