Green Party Mocked For Mis-Spelling Constituency Name As By-Election Campaign Kicks Off

The mis-spelled Green Party poster. The Greens have been mocked after mis-spelling the name of the constituency in a crunch by-election.A campaign poster at a rally featuring party leader Zack Polanski called the Greater Manchester seat “Gorten and Denton” instead of Gorton and Denton. The embarrassing gaffe was spotted by Sky News producer Jack Parker.Greens leader Zack Polanski is in Manchester for a Gorton & Denton by-election rallyExcept… all the signs spell the constituency wrong pic.twitter.com/esZaYAjou1— Jack Parker (@JackParkr) January 27, 2026It came just two days after Green Party MP Ellie Chowns wrongly spelled the constituency “Girton and Denton” in a post on X urging voters to campaign in the seat.Join us campaigning in Manchester! The Greens can’t spell it. Only Labour will stand up for Gorton and Denton.”The Reform jibe was a reference to Lee Anderson MP campaigning in the wrong constituency at the weekend.According to photos he posted on X, the Ashfield MP actually spent the weekend campaigning in the neighbouring seat.A Green Party source took a dig at Reform leader Nigel Farage being rapped for failing to register more than £300,000 with Commons authorities. He said: “We did a typo. Farage didn’t declare hundreds of thousands in income. We all make mistakes.”The by-election was triggered by the resignation of sitting MP Andrew Gwynne on health grounds. He won the seat for Labour at the 2024 general election with a majority of around 13,400 votes. However, polling shows Labour is now virtually neck-and-neck with Reform and the Greens in the seat.Labour splits have erupted over the party’s decision to block Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham from being the party’s candidate.Reform unveiled right-wing GB News presenter Matt Goodwin as their own candidate on Tuesday. The Greens have yet to announce who is standing for them, but Zack Polanski said: “We alone will be taking the fight to Reform, whose selection of a man with a track record of anti-Muslim bigotry in a community with a good history of community relations is an insult to the people of Gorton and Denton.“It tells you everything you need to know that Reform are parachuting in this rent-an-extremist – this isn’t about representing the people of Gorton and Denton, it’s about using this place as a platform for their careers.”Related…Andy Burnham Goes To War With Downing Street Amid Row Over MP Bid SnubExclusive: Labour Bosses Urged To Block Andy Burnham’s Bid To Be An MP AgainAndy Burnham Blocked From Running To Be An MP By Labour’s Ruling Body HuffPost UK – Athena2 – All Entries (Public) Read More
