‘F**k That, I’m Out’: Odessa A’zion Quits Film After Backlash Over Her Casting

Odessa A’zionBafta nominee Odessa A’zion has confirmed she will not be moving forward with her role in the film adaptation of Holly Brickley’s novel Deep Cuts after facing backlash over her casting. It was recently reported that the Marty Supreme star had been cast as Zoe in the new A24 movie. However, upon learning that the character was written as being of Mexican descent, which Odessa is not, she made it clear that she had no intention of progressing with the film.Addressing those who were upset about the casting news on her Instagram story in the early hours of Thursday morning, she wrote: “Guys!! I am with ALL of you and I am NOT doing this movie. Fuck that. I’m OUT.”Odessa continued: “Lemme make myself clear… THANK YOU guys for bringing this to my attention. I AGREE WITH EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU! This is why I love you guys.“I’m so so sorry that this happened. It is SO important for me to let you in on how it all went down: I went in [to audition] for [the role of] Percy, but was offered Zoe instead and instantly said yes! I’m so pissed y’all, I hadn’t read the book and should have paid more attention to all aspects of Zoe before accepting… and now that I know what l know??? Fuck that! I’M OUT.”She insisted: “I’d never take a role from someone else that’s meant to do it. That SHOULD do it! That’s not me.“There are a plentitude of people more than capable of playing this role and I am NOT one of them. I can’t wait to see who it ends up being. I was so excited I just said ‘hell yeah’ ’cause I knew how much I loved the story so l was just down to be a part of it, and so excited to work with this group of people! But fuck [that]… y’all never again!”Odessa A’zion addresses her critics on InstagramOdessa added that she’d been “so busy” that she hadn’t had time to re-read Deep Cuts, meaning that she wasn’t aware of the character’s heritage when she agreed to the role, once again thanking her fans for bringing it to her attention.“[I] still haven’t read the book,” she remarked. “But the story in the script is focused on Percy and Joe, so of course on my initial read that was my main focus as well.“I was happy to be involved as a different role, but I just can not do it knowing more about Zoe now. I love you guysss… sleep tight.”After appearing in the likes of I Love LA, Hellraiser and the American remake of Ghosts, Odessa’s breakout role came towards the end of 2025 when she appeared opposite Timothée Chalamet in Marty Supreme. For her performance in the Josh Safdie drama, she is currently in the running for a Bafta and two prizes at the recently-renamed Actor Awards.MORE FILM NEWS:Barry Keoghan Debuts Beatles Hair Transformation At Premiere Of His New ThrillerKirsten Dunst Is Not Happy About Her Husband Jesse Plemons’ Oscars Snub28 Years Later ‘Alpha’ Chi Lewis-Parry Reacts To The Furore Over His Nude Scenes HuffPost UK – Athena2 – All Entries (Public) Read More
