Music legend Phil Collins has said he is currently battling serious health issues that require a 24-hour nurse.The former Genesis drummer and popular solo artist recently appeared on the BBC podcast Eras in advance of his 75th birthday next week, and discussed his ongoing health concerns.“I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do,” Phil explained. “I’ve had challenges with my knee. I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me.”The In The Air Tonight singer said everything “seemed to converge at the same time”, and said his kidneys started to back up after he contracted Covid while in hospital.In addition, the drumming legend has difficulty walking after undergoing five knee surgeries that left him with only one knee “that works”.“I can walk, albeit with assistance, you know, crutches or whatever,” he added.Phil CollinsPhil admitted that “drinking too much” is what caused his kidneys to get “messed up,” but said that he recently celebrated two years of sobriety.“I enjoyed coming off tour. Coming off the road, I thought, right, I’m gonna do all those things that I couldn’t do,” he said. “I guess I had too much of it. I was never drunk, although I fell over a couple of times.“But it is just one of those things that happened and it all caught up with me, and I spent months in hospital.”After admitting that “it’s just been a difficult, interesting, frustrating last few years”, he put a positive spin on his current state. “But it’s all right now.”Although Peoplenotes that Phil officially retired from drumming in 2022,hetold Mojo magazine last yearthat he still had the desire to make music.“I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore,” he said. “The thing is, I’ve been sick.
