Putin Has Not Actually Accepted Trump’s Offer To Join His ‘Board Of Peace’

President Donald Trump, right, shakes the hand of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin during a joint press conference at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Friday, Aug. 15, 2025. Vladimir Putin has not quite accepted Donald Trump’s invitation for Russia to join the US’s Board of Peace despite the US president’s claims.Trump told reporters at Davos’ World Economic Forum on Wednesday that Putin had accepted his offer to join world leaders on the panel.According to AFP, the president said: “He was invited, he’s accepted, many people have accepted.”The board, part of Trump’s 20-point plan to resolve the Israel-Hamas conflict, is set to have its signing ceremony on Thursday. The president initially claimed this organisation will help temporarily run the Palestinian enclave as it is reconstructed after the Israel-Hamas conflict. But it’s now believed that Trump is trying to recreate his own version of the United Nations with the board.Though the Kremlin confirmed on Monday that it had received Trump’s invitation, Putin refused to say if he had accepted the offer on Wednesday.During a televised cabinet meeting, the Russian president said: “The Russian foreign ministry has been charged with studying the documents that were sent to use and to consult on the topic with our strategic partners.”Putin also said he would pay $1 billion price of permanent membership with Russian assets which are currently frozen in the US – meaning he actually does not have access to them right now.The Russian president also added a caveat, saying those funds could be used to “reconstruct the territories damaged by the hostilities, after the conclusion of a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine”.The UK has joined Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Slovenia and France in snubbing the invitation over Putin’s inclusion on the board. On BBC Breakfast on Thursday, UK foreign secretary Yvette Cooper said: “We won’t be one of the signatories today because this is about a legal treaty, that raises much broader issues, and we do also have concerns about President Putin being part of something which is talking about peace when we still have not seen any signs from Putin that there will be a commitment to peace in Ukraine.”The foreign secretary added: “We will have continuing international discussions, including with our allies, including on how we work with this and how we work with the peace process for Gaza going forward.”Out of the 60 world leaders invited to join the board, only a handful have said yes so far, including Belarus, Hungary, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan and Qatar.Putin is set to meet Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and his special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow today for further discussions about a Ukraine peace deal.Related…UK Snubs Offer To Join Trump’s ‘Board Of Peace’ Over Putin InvitationUK Minister Hits Back At Trump’s ‘Absurd’ Invitation For Putin To Join Gaza Board Of PeaceDonald Trump Has Invited Vladimir Putin To Join His Gaza Board Of Peace, Kremlin Says HuffPost UK – Athena2 – All Entries (Public) Read More
